Having said that, though the author is not an archaeologist, she has done a thorough research and close contact with archaeologist, especially those who are directly involved in those four cities. Not that I’m saying, had the author was an archeologist, then this would have been a snooze fest. And now that I know the author is a journalist, that explains the easily digested words. If anything, this feels like reading a nice article on your Sunday morning newspaper. I was expecting this to be somewhat difficult to read because of the topic, but that was definitely not the case. This is such a fun read and at times can be quite conversational with the tidbits on the surrounding of the cities that the author visited in modern times. It breaks down not only of the history from each of the four cities, but about the lives that were lived during the time the cities were at its prime, the urban development, how it came to its end, and what happens afterward to its inhabitants. Title: Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban AgeĪs the title suggests, along with the cover illustration, this book tells the story of four ancient cities, Catalhoyuk, Pompeei, Angkor, and Cahokia.
